Born in Harare, Zimbabwe in May 1975, Virginia Tayengwa grew up with a deep-seated passion for artistic expression.
She pursued her interest in art by studying at St. Benedict's Mission, where she honed her skills and developed a unique, personal style. Post graduation, she had the opportunity to work under the tutelage of renowned artist, Roy Bennet at Waterberry Pottery in Zimbabwe. This formative experience allowed her to gain real-world exposure and pushed her to refine her techniques further.
Eventually, life led her to the vibrant city of Durban, KZN, where she currently resides with her husband. In Durban, she has continued to forge her path as a committed artist.
Her works are not just visually captivating with their wonderfully colourful and naive aesthetic, but they also capture a unique perspective of life. Through her art, she narrates the diverse, energetic, and soulful stories of Africa. The spirit of the continent comes alive in her creations, offering viewers a vivid glimpse into the essence of African life.
Her creativity and authentic representation of African culture have endeared her to many. Today, Virginia continues to contribute to the art community, each work adding a new layer of depth and understanding to her rich tapestry of African storytelling.
Whether it's through her choice of vibrant hues or the naive charm of her work, Virginia Tayengwa's art continues to captivate and inspire, leaving a lasting impression on anyone who experiences it.
