Renee Leslie

Renee Leslie, a former teacher, followed her passion for art in 2005, cultivating a distinctive, intuitive style. Focusing on expressive mark-making, her work is characterized by its loose and immediate feel. Renee is proficient in mixed media, collage, and drawing with different tools on prepared backgrounds, with a recent foray into oil painting.

Over the past two decades, she has been a part of the advanced drawing group, the Garret Artists, under the guidance of Jeanette Gilks, who significantly influenced her artistic journey. She has also benefited from painting lessons from Maggie Strachan and Dee Donaldson, and the knowledge-sharing culture within the artist community.

Since 2000, Renee has participated in numerous group exhibitions across various South African cities, including the quadrennial KZN art and craft exhibition, Jabulisa, in 2010.

She earned recognition in 2007 by securing second place in the KZNSA Members' Exhibition “The Naked Truth" with her poignant work titled “Alzheimer's Isolation."
