WOODCUTS & PASTELS

Ezequeil Mabote

Born in 1979 in Gaza Province, Mozambique, Ezequiel Mabote honed his artistic skills at the Nucleo de Arte in Maputo.

His greatest learnings came from observing Mozambique's textile workers, designers, and wood carvers. A significant influence on his work was the late Samuel Mbingilo, a celebrated Namibian woodcut artist.

Now based in Durban, KZN, Ezequiel has transformed woodcut art into his forte, earning him recognition as one of the foremost artists in the field. His artistic repertoire also includes painting, sculpture, and bookbinding.

The Elizabeth Gordon Gallery has tastefully incorporated his work into diverse environments like hotels, offices, and residences.

Ezequiel's works embody his childhood memories, capturing scenes of work, leisure, and prayer, along with traditional folk tales narrated by his grandparents.

His exhibitions span South Africa and the United States. Recently, after completing wall murals for a Johannesburg chain, he secured a major commission in Dubai.
